How can I use video chat?

  • Updated

CatholicMatch provides the option for members to meet each other virtually through our video chat feature. Click the Messages tab, then click on the conversation of the member with whom you would like to video chat. (Video chats can only be initiated by members who have already exchanged communication between each other).

In the top-right corner of the conversation, you will see a video camera icon.

Black indicates you have never participated in a video chat with that particular member.

Blue indicates you have already enabled video chat with that particular member.

If the icon is grey, you will need to "Enable Video Chat." To do this, click on the grey video camera icon. When the pop-up appears, click the toggle switch.

When you're ready to video chat with a member, click the video camera icon. This does not immediately begin the video chat. Your device's camera will turn on and you will see a preview of yourself before beginning the video chat.

Make sure that both the microphone and camera that you see somewhere in the lower middle do NOT have a line through them; if either one does, just select it to remove the line which then turns your microphone or camera on. If this is the first time you have used this device to video chat on CatholicMatch, you will need to press "Request permissions" and hit accept.

In the bottom-right corner of the window, you will see two buttons. Click the "x" to cancel the call, and "Call" to continue.

The other member will receive a notification when you click the "Call" button, and your video chat will begin.

Ending the video chat: When you're ready to end the video chat, click the red "door" icon on the right hand side of the button menu. This completely ends the video chat, and the other member will not be able to see or hear you.
